searching for light

by Linda M. Crate

i was a moth / burned by darkness / searching for light

you were my aesthetic or so i thought |

turns out you were | just a pretty | lie

charming and manipulative lust /

my fairy dust / death / by a wolf’s fangs

but i rose again |

you thought | killing me was | easy

but i am immortal as the phoenix

a daughter of the moon /

a daughter of light |

a butterfly.

Linda M. Crate is a Pennsylvanian native born in Pittsburgh yet raised in the rural town of Conneautville whose writing has appeared in a number of anthologies and magazines both online and in print.
