Evening in June

by Vinny Steed

Rare glimpses of you across the square
swamped in tropical steam
as rain washes down the walls
your coat pulled tight
that old familiar way you hold
your cigarette
a spectre pushing puddles
and I forever out of touch
a Creation of Adam
struggling to make sound
the staccato of my voice
muffled
like water flowing through a tin-can.

Vinny is a writer from Galway whose poems have been published abroad, in numerous journals as well as online.  He attends poetry workshops in the Galway Arts Centre and is currently working towards his first book.
