The View

By Abigail O’Regan

In the mountains I found refuge.
I leave them behind
as I walk towards a battlefield.
The rain stings as I

Lean into the wind,
Standing on the edge with the
Fresh water below, taunting me.
The wind breaks

And for just a second,
I am falling.
It catches me, laughing
as I find my breath.

Into the tree line I retreat
safe beneath the branches,
feeling the twisted trunks.
I wish I could stay in their company.

Mists still shroud the full view
But I see the outline of the
Mountain. The rain stings
As I walk away from serenity.
